I am a philosopher specializing in the nature of the biological sciences. I am finishing a manuscript with the working title Charles Darwin, Reluctant Statistician. The book demonstrates how Darwin used statistics and probability theory throughout his career to develop his ideas on evolution.

I have published papers on various topics, including: the nature of evolutionary theory, statistical explanation, innateness, and teleology. Have a look at my publication page for more detail.

I am the Director of Graduate Studies for Mizzou's Philosophy Department. We are a vibrant team! Our grad students are funded through five-year TAships, including stipends, free tuition, and health care. Several of our graduate students also hold university fellowships.

I am also the co-Director of Mizzou's Arts and Science Writing Fellows Program. Fellows receive course releases to finish their signature projects. We meet once a week in the historic and beautiful Conley House.

Among my hobbies, I enjoy making functional pottery. I share a studio with my neighbor whose property abuts the corner of ours, hence the name "Corner Studios".

We have many pets: two dogs, Méline (pictured in the banner of this website) and Penny, a cat named Mika, and four chickens (the Punnett Twins, Penelope, and Sage).

I have two daughters. Hannah is a pastry chef, Amalia is a sophomore at Mizzou majoring in Anthropology.
